What Is Stoneware?
Stoneware — 炻器 (Shí Qì) — is a dense, high-fired ceramic body fired typically between 1,200°C and 1,300°C. Unlike earthenware, it is largely non-porous and highly durable. Unlike porcelain, it retains a natural, earthy character. Varieties include rough stoneware (coarse clay / 粗陶), old rock mud (老岩泥), and high-temperature kiln-transformation glazed pieces from Dehua.
